The Importance of Prioritizing Playtime for Driven Daring Divas

by Jessie May on June 20, 2012

I’ll admit, when it comes to prioritizing playtime I haven’t always been on top of my game. In fact, I’ve been known to work my butt off to the point of exhaustion. A few months ago I hit a breaking point. Although I was fully invested in creating my dream career as a life coach and business owner, I was stressed out, freaking out, burned out and not having any fun. But wait, you may ask, what’s the point of creating your dream career if you’re not having any fun? Good question. I asked myself that too, and the answer I came up with was, “there is no point.” That’s when I began transforming the way I defined “the meaning of life.”

For all of you driven Daring Divas out there like me, we must remember that the meaning of life resides in the journey, not the destination. We must remember that how we are “being” in relation to ourselves and our friends and family is more important than the things we are “doing.” As Abraham Hicks said, “you cannot have a happy ending to a miserable journey.”

Our journey is much more fulfilling when we prioritize playtime in our life. Playtime   allows us to rejuvenate and de stress, which helps us “be” the type of person who creates fulfilling relationships and experiences that culminate into our “happy ending.”

Since I’ve decided to prioritize playtime, my life has become so much more fulfilling. I have been canyoneering, rock climbing, sand duning, out to happy hours and new restaurants, relaxing in nature, pampering myself with manis and pedis, and so much more. And you know what’s happened? Not only has my relationship with my husband become richer and closer, but my business has started to take off in new ways too!

The challenge for driven Daring Divas is to stop thinking of playtime as something that takes away from our productivity, but instead as something that fuels our productivity.  Because it absolutely does!

My challenge to you this week is to prioritize playtime and watch what happens to your productivity and fulfillment in other areas of your life. How will you play?
