Question #1. What does being a Daring Diva Mean to You?

I think being is a Daring Diva is really about going for your dreams and living your life to your fullest potential. That’s the real bottom line. It’s about stretching, more and more. It’s about being fully + authentically YOU, within yourself, your relationships, and your work in the world.

Question #2. What are the three most significant qualities that make YOU a Daring Diva?

#1: Intuition. The inner quality of really listening to myself and my truth feels essential. All of my previous training as a Body Centered Psychotherapist has really set the stage for how I live life, and feel trust, and build my business. It all starts here.

#2: Because of the intuition, I’m able to trust, and feel safe enough to really risk. Risk is a big one. As an entrepreneur, you have to be able and willing to risk – it’s central to the success and the impact you can have. Risk can be internal, like emotional vulnerability, or external, like investing in your dream. Being vulnerable and authentic is a risk. Launching is a risk. I’m risking all the time.

#3 Service. Basically, service is about really honoring who I am and who I’m not. It’s about finding my natural work to do and meeting the world & marketplace with it. Service is about knowing my strengths, seeing a deep need in the world, and filling it.

Question #3. Being a Daring Diva isn’t always easy. What keeps you motivated and inspired to choose the Daring Diva life?

On some level, it’s just innate to me. I’m know that I am actually unemployable. I grew up with an entrepreneurial father and uncles, who worked for themselves and did their own thing. So it just feels like it’s in my blood. And, when I realized this in my late 20’s (after tying to work for organizations), I recognized this was the only path for me.

But what motivates me is really to live fully in this amazing precious life. I’m committed to living a passionate, full life. I love to love my life.

Also, I’m motivated by my family, providing for my son and being a great role model for him. My marriage, too. As a two-entrepreneur family, Forest {techhusband.com} & I motivate each other to keep striving for the highest good, and our fullest potential.

Question #4. What is the most daring thing you’ve ever done and what did you learn from the experience?

Ironically, the thing that’s coming to me is deciding to get married at 35 and have a child at 40. For so long, I was anti-traditional and never thought I’d do these things. I took my time to develop myself, and have lots of experiences in my twenties. It was daring at the time to decide I didn’t want marriage and kids, and stand in that truth, while navigating the societal pressures to “settle down”. And it was equally daring to wake up in my 30s and decide that I then did want these things. I learned the importance of living my path, my truth, and my timing.

Question #5. Tell us about a time when you failed or nearly gave up. What did you learn and how has this experience influenced your current relationship with failure?

In September of 2007 I landed a big contract that I had been wanting for a long time. I was hired by a publishing company that offers spiritual and psycho-spiritual teachings, to create a 12-CD course for them. I got in the studio and I had nothing to say. I could not do it. Within a few days, the contract was canceled. Big failure.I questioned myself. This was heartbreak for me. I questioned my message, my teaching ability, everything. I did think about giving up.

Within 3 weeks, I got pregnant with my son, Noah. What a blessing; what a gift to receive after such a big closing door.

From this failure, I learned who I am and who I’m not, what makes me thrive, and what makes me fail. I need live students to come alive as a teacher and for my teachings to come alive.

Fast forward 2 years, I launched my own homestudy course, recorded with a live group of 60 amazing students (with audios, workbooks, and more). I did it in my way, I’m really proud of it – such a powerful and satisfying experience that all began with failure.

Question #6. What are your top three tips for living an extraordinary life?

#1Love yourself. More, and better. ‘nuff said.

#2Find your people that you love and love you.

#3Hike every day. Or your version of coming into your body and connecting with Self.

Question #7. Daring Divas USA’s theme for July is “Money”. What is your perspective on what it means to relate to money as a Daring Diva?

Well, I’m a Financial Therapist and the Founder of the Conscious Bookkeeping Method so this is right up my alley and quite the can of worms to answer.

I believe that the 3 doorways to our money relationship are Money Healing (Financial Therapy), Money Practices (Values Based Bookkeeping) and Money Maps (Life Vision Planning).

1. Know your “money story”. Your strengths and your challenges. Continually work on this to improve and heal.

2. Create clear + fun + creative money practices. Choose a tracking system like Mint, Quicken or Quickbooks. Live it. Nibble on some chocolate while you do your bookkeeping.

3.  Set up goals + intentions. review your numbers and learn from them. Notice when you are in alignment with your values and when you are not. Re-direct. Get back on course.

4.  Appreciate what you do have and honor where you are going. Celebrate + enjoy life.

For me, being a Daring Diva comes down to having a conscious and healthy relationship (with money and everything else!) And this is ever evolving, and changes through our life phases and financial phases. The bottom line is about being conscious, empowered, and clear within yourself and in your money relationship.

~~~~~
Thank you Bari, your story is such an inspiration! You clearly demonstrate what it means to lead the life of a Daring Diva by consciously choosing your path.
